RICHARD LIEDIGK

Richard W. Liedigk, 80, of Perrysburg, died January 1, 2012, at his home. The son of Dorothy and Paul Liedigk, he was born December 12, 1931. He retired from Libbey-Owens-Ford in Rossford in 1980. He served in the Army in the Korean War as a medic, from 1952 to 1954, Third Infantry Division, where he received the Bronze Star.
He enjoyed watching sports, especially the Lions and Tigers, and was a longtime amateur radio operator. KC8FX (silent key).
Mr. Liedigk is survived by his wife of 54 years, Elizabeth; son, Jeff; daughter, Marsha Kulish (Barton); and grandchildren, McKenna and Maddison, and brothers Don and Paul Liedigk. He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert.
A private memorial service was held.


NICHOLAUS SMITH JR.

Nicholaus “Nick” Cleon Smith Jr., 64, of Perrysburg, died Sunday, January 29, 2012, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. He was born in Toledo on November 26, 1947, to Maeola (Oates) and Nicholaus Smith Sr. and was a 1965 graduate of Rossford High School.
During his high school years, Mr. Smith began his career in the lawn and garden retail business with McBride Equipment, which he later co-owned with his father. He attended Penta Tech and Owens Community College, where he studied computer programming.
During the mid-1980s, McBride Equipment was named the largest Simplicity Dealer in the United States and was a successful dealership for Arctic Cat Snowmobiles and Stihl Equipment. In 2001, Mr. Smith closed the business due to his struggle with multiple sclerosis.
He married Sharon Henry on November 6, 1970.
He was a member of Saddles & Surreys 4H Club and the Maumee Valley Thunderbird Club and was an avid Ohio State University and Rossford Bulldogs sports fan. In his spare time, he enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, snowmobiling, and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon; daughters, Heather (Mark) Nissen and Holly (Chris) Kiefer; grandchildren, Lauren and Austen Nissen and Claire and Cole Kiefer, all of Perrysburg Township; mother, Maeola Smith of Perrysburg; mother-in-law, Betty Henry; sisters-in-law, Cindy (Dave) Kistner and Lisa (John) Evans, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father.
Visitation will be held today, Wednesday, February 1, after 10 a.m., at Zoar Lutheran Church, 314 East Indiana Avenue, Perrysburg, where funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Burial will be private. Arrangements were made by the Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, Perrysburg.
