New members, resignation and evaluation highlight start of 2020 for Washington Local

A handful of beginnings, one ending and planning for the future marked the first month of 2020 for Washington Local Schools Board of Education.

The board held its inaugural meeting of the year on January 8, installing three new board members: Irshad Bannister, Melanie Garcia and Karen Mayfield. All three were voted in after the 2019 general election.

Mr. Bannister is a local business owner in financial services. A longtime member of the Washington Local community, he attended Greenwood Elementary, is a 2001 graduate of Whitmer High School, and joined the varsity football staff in 2012, also coaching both the youth basketball and Washington junior football leagues since then. He and his wife have four children, all of whom attend Washington Local ington Local schools. He graduated from Bowling Green State University and earned his master’s degree at the University of Findlay. His term runs through 2023.
